The new addition to coffee is edible fungi-mushrooms and is the latest obsession with caffeine addicts. You might be wondering about mushrooms in a coffee? But this unique coffee is made by mixing powdered mushrooms in coffee powder to develop a unique taste.
The mushroom’s earthy flavor fit well with the roasted coffee beans and provides a smooth flavor as well as high levels of antioxidants and other compounds that help in enhancing focus and thinking abilities.
Just like other infused coffees this variety also has health benefits. Mushroom coffee is said to be anti-inflammatory and also maintains blood sugar levels. Tero Isokauppila, founder of the brand selling mushroom coffee said that the blend was made to infuse the medicinal properties of mushroom with coffee. He also talked about the health benefits of mushrooms varieties like reishi, a mushroom that has benefits for the skin, chaga, which is rich in antioxidants, cordyceps, which improve performance and productivity, etc.
As per the taste the drink is said to be rich and mellow and has a taste similar to that of coffee and tea both. However, this is not the first time that mushroom has been added to a drink it is also added to milkshakes and juices in order to enhance the nutritional value.
